We are Fidelity
Since our founding, our focus has remained the same: We help our customers and clients achieve their financial goals.

Our founding
After taking over the Fidelity Fund three years earlier, in 1946 Edward Johnson 2d founded a new company, Fidelity Management & Research, to act as the sole adviser to Fidelity Fund.

Early innovation
In 1974, Fidelity became the first company to sell retail mutual funds directly through a toll-free telephone line and to offer a check-writing capability from money market mutual funds.

Asset management leadership
In the 1980s, Magellan became Fidelity’s flagship fund and the largest equity fund in the world.

Multi-channel expansion
Fidelity began offering 401(k) workplace savings plans to employers and opened our first retail investor center, expanding the reach of our business during the early 1980s.

Investor choice
Launched FundsNetwork in 1989, an open platform which provides access to Fidelity and non-Fidelity funds to individual investors and financial institutions, enabling choice for our clients.

Customized investing for all
In 2011, Fidelity Personalized Portfolios launches, providing portfolio customization, tax management, and investment vehicles in a single account.

Increasing investing access
In the late 2010s, Fidelity made strides to lower barriers to investing, launching the industry’s first zero expense ratio index funds as well as our robo-advisor, Fidelity Go®.

Expanding choice for customers
From digital assets and alternative investments to holistic planning and innovative tools that help people save, Fidelity recently launched offerings that benefit from our diversified businesses.
